Koraput: As many as 10 students sustained injuries as the school van they were travelling in overturned due to excessive speed at Borigumma in Koraput district, on Wednesday.
According to sources, the van carrying schoolchildren was headed towards Borigumma when the driver lost control, causing it to skid off the road near Sargiguda.
Eyewitnesses reported that the van was travelling at a high speed, which led to the loss of control. Fortunately, some bikers who were following the van managed to rescue the injured students and rush them to the Borigumma Hospital.
The injured students are from the Borigumma Saraswati Sishu Mandir. Six students have been shifted to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital, while others are receiving treatment at the Borigumma Hospital.
The condition of one student, Kabita Pradhan, is reported to be critical. On a tip-off, police, and school authorities rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
An investigation into the incident is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
