Bhubaneswar: In a poignant yet inspiring act of generosity, the grieving parents of a 15-year-girl who tragically succumbed to a road accident on February 2, donated her eyes, giving the gift of sight to the needy.

The deceased student identified as Archita and Priyadarshini, Class IX students of Buddharaj School at Danagadi in Jajpu, sustained injuries after being hit by a truck when both were going to school on a bicycle to celebrate Saraswati Puja with her friend Priyadarshini. Archita sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Danagadi Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. She, however, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

The accident had sparked tension with locals blocking the Jajpur-Kalinga Nagar Road. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), on informed, rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.

Archita’s parents, though grief-stricken, found solace in the fact that their daughter’s eyes continue to live on, benefiting others. The family’s courageous decision has, meanwhile, been lauded by schoolteachers and friends.
