Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old woman was burnt alive in her betel shop at Baktarpur Square under Pattamundai police station in Kendrapara district. The deceased has been identified as Kamala Sahu.

The shop, located in Baktarpur Square, was Kamala’s livelihood, and she had been running it for years.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Kamala was lighting incense sticks in her shop. A customer arrived, asking for petrol, and as Kamala was serving him, the incense near the deity caught fire, causing a massive explosion. Locals heard the blast and rushed to the scene and informed the fire brigade, which took an hour to bring the fire under control.

Unfortunately, by the time the fire was extinguished, everything had been reduced to ashes, and Kamala had succumbed to her injuries.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire and explosion.
