Bhubaneswar: The ‘Mahadeepa’ of Lord Lingaraj will be placed atop the temple crown (Dadhinauti) at 10 pm on Maha Shivaratri Day scheduled on February 26.
A decision in this regard was taken at a preparatory meeting held on Tuesday to oversee the arrangement of Mahashivaratri at the 11th-century old shrine that attracts a massive influx of devotees from across Odisha on this auspicious day.
The meeting emphasized the need for peaceful and smooth celebrations, and discussions were held to ensure that necessary arrangements were made, said sources.
Lingaraj temple is among the famous Shiva shrines that attract lakhs of devotees on this day. Placing the Mahadeep atop the temple is a significant ritual, as devotees break their fast after seeing the Mahadeepa.
