Bhubaneswar: Ramesh Chandra Barad, former Revenue Inspector of Karlamunda Tahasil and Narla Tahasil in Kalahandi district, has been dismissed from government service and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
Barad was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna on January 31, 2025, and also fined Rs. 20,000 for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to demarcate their land. The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Barad in April 2021 under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Following his conviction, the competent authority dismissed Barad from government service with effect from February 18, 2025, under the provisions of the OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962.
“Following conviction of Sri Ramesh Chandra Barad, Odisha Vigilance had communicated in this regard to the competent authority to take appropriate action against Sri Barad. Accordingly, Sri Ramesh Chandra Barad, Former RI, Karlamunda Tahasil, Dist-Kalahandi, A/p-RI, Narla Tahasil, Dist-Kalahandi was axed from Govt. Service by the competent authority for bribery”, read a press release issued by the Vigilance Directorate.
