Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed when a speeding truck collided with the car they were travelling in at Gangapada Road on Bhubaneswar outskirts in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was heading towards Bhubaneswar from Berhampur when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car overturned, leaving the occupants trapped inside.
Firefighters and police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After a prolonged effort, they managed to extricate the passengers from the wreckage. However, two persons have died on the spot, while another was critically injured by the time they were rescued.
The injured was rushed to AII India Institute of Medical Sciences where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Though the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation suggests that the victims were residents of Chandanpur in Puri district.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are examining the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
