Sambalpur Woman Dies After Liver Transplant

Bhubaneswar: A woman from Sambalpur, who was suffering from a life-threatening illness and urgently needed a liver transplant, has passed away after her elder sister-in-law donated part of her liver to save her life.

The woman in need of the transplant, Umakanti Pradhan and her sister-in-law, Pratima Pradhan, both live in Jankarpali village in the Jujumura block of Sambalpur district.

According to reports, after the transplant, Umakanti’s condition worsened due to infections, which led to multiple organ failures. She passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad. Her family members are now on their way home to perform her last rites.

Meanwhile, the liver transplant took place on January 24 at Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad. Doctors had initially confirmed that the transplant was successful.

Sadly, despite 28 days of treatment, Umakanti could not survive.
