Balangir: The Puintala police arrested two persons for allegedly duping beneficiaries of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) in Balangir district on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSKY District Coordinator, Subrata Sahoo, informed the Balangir Superintendent of Police (SP).
Following the SP’s instructions, the Puintala police went to the location, rescued a patient from a vehicle and arrested the main person involved in the patient smuggling — a woman — along with the driver.
The accused woman is from the Padmapur area of Bargarh district and the seized vehicle was identified as belonging to Habib Khan from Chhattisgarh.
While questioning the woman, the police learned that 10 to 12 patients from Athgaon were being taken to a private hospital in Chhattisgarh. The woman has been working for a private medical center in Raipur for a long time as an agent.
It was revealed that she was tricking innocent patients in rural areas by promising them high-quality medical services for free through BSKY cards.
The investigation revealed that she had been taking patients from Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts to Raipur, while embezzling BSKY funds.
Balangir Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Kumar Upadhyay said, “The woman involved in this case has been arrested.”
During interrogation, the police discovered that a large-scale racket is being operated.
