Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced a strict verification of ration card holders, including those who have filed income tax returns.
This announcement was made by Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, on Tuesday.
“We received a complaint that some people who filed their income tax returns had their ration cards canceled. I want to clarify that a physical verification will take place. Officials will do door-to-door inspections. Poor people will definitely receive ration cards and ineligible names will be removed,” said Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, speaking to reporters in Bhubaneswar.
He further explained that rural households with incomes above Rs 10,000 and urban households with incomes over Rs 15,000 per month may face the cancellation of their ration cards.
He also said that officials have been assigned to make sure the verification process is fair and accurate and to protect the rights of eligible families in the state.
