Bhubaneswar: The Odia film industry has been plunged into mourning with the passing of veteran actor Uttam Mohanty, who breathed his last at Medant Hospital in New Delhi on late Thursday night. He was 66.
Mohanty reportedly fell ill during the shooting of an Odia film titled Bou Butu Bhoota and was initially admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was later airlifted to Delhi for better medical care after his condition deteriorated. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to liver cirrhosis last night.
The beloved actor is survived by his wife, actor Aparajita, and son, actor Babushaan. His demise has sent shockwaves through the Odia film industry and countless fans, who will deeply miss him.
The veteran actor left an indelible mark on the Odia film industry, with a remarkable career spanning over 135 Odia films and 30 Bengali movies. He also made his presence felt in Hindi cinema with his role in the movie Naya Zaher.
