Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested six persons in connection with the ATM loot that occurred on January 24 in the Lingaraj police station area in Bhubaneswar.
Addressing a press meet, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said two out of the six arrested persons have criminal antecedents, including murder. A vehicle, Rs 1.6 lakh cash, and several other incriminating materials were seized from their possession. These miscreants were also involved in another ATM loot that occurred in 2022. The modus operandi was the same in both cases, he added.
A group of suspects, allegedly including local criminals, dismantled an ATM in the Sriram Nagar locality and discarded the teller machine in the Gangua Canal of the Daya River near Samantarapur after looting the cash inside.
However, their getaway was foiled by CCTV cameras, which captured their actions and ultimately led to their capture.
Notably, the CCTV footage from the crime scene showed masked individuals uprooting the cash-loaded ATM machine, loading it onto a stolen auto-rickshaw, and then fleeing the scene. The footage provided crucial leads that ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects.
