Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old youth allegedly stoned his parents and sister to death at their residence in Jay Bada village under Sadar Police limits in Jagatsinghpur district late Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Prashant Sethi, his wife Kanakalata Sethi, and their daughter Mamali Sethi.
According to police sources, Suryakant had a heated argument with his family members, including his parents and sister, over some issue before committing the crime.
After committing the crime, Suryakant went to his neighbour’s house and confessed to the murder. However, he later changed his clothes and fled the scene. Suryakant, who had completed his studies, was unemployed and stayed at home while his father worked as a labourer in the market to support the family, said sources.
The reason behind Suryakant’s brutal act is still unclear. Police are investigating the matter and have arrested Suryakant near a high school. He is being interrogated to uncover the motive behind the triple murder.
According to the accused’s brother, Suryakant was addicted to mobile games and had frequent quarrels with his family members.
The incident occurred late on Monday night, and the police were informed about it on Tuesday morning. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
