Begunia: A massive explosion rocked Deuli Badsahi village under the Begunia police station limits in Khordha district on Tuesday, leaving a couple critically injured. The incident occurred while the duo was allegedly engaged in the illegal manufacturing of firecrackers inside their home.
According to reports, Ashok Kumar Mallik, a resident of Deuli Badsahi village, and his wife were making firecrackers when the explosion took place. The blast was so intense that the asbestos roofs of two rooms in their house were completely blown off. Both Ashok and his wife sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Ashok, a firecracker trader, has a history of involvement in illegal firecracker trade. Police sources revealed that he had been arrested earlier for similar offences and had been allegedly running this illegal business for a long time.
Begunia police have launched an investigation into the incident. The explosion has raised concerns about the dangers of illegal firecracker manufacturing, which often takes place in residential areas, putting lives and property at risk.
