Puri: A wedding stage set up on Puri beach has been demolished by the Puri Municipality. The stage, which was decorated for the wedding ceremony, was taken down by the municipality’s eviction officer, citing a lack of permission from the tehsil office, CSD, and forest department.
The district collector deemed it illegal, stating that private functions, including weddings, cannot be held on the beach. The executive officer of the municipality acknowledged that permission was given but emphasized that additional approvals from other departments were required.
The family members and guests are now left wondering where to hold the wedding, despite having received a letter of permission from the Puri municipality. The letter specified the Housing Board Colony, Puri Sea Beach.
The demolition of the wedding stage has also sparked debate about the use of public spaces for private events. Many event organisations also protested the bid to hold marriage ceremonies on the beach.
