Bhubaneswar: A youth went missing after jumping into the Mahanadi River in fear at Baragodia village under Jagatpur Police Station in Cuttack district on Saturday.
The missing youth has been identified as Talim Jena.
The police had received a tip-off about illegal sand mining in the Baragodia area and had arrived to conduct a raid.
Upon reaching the spot, they found that illegal sand mining was taking place near the Mahanadi River.
When the youth saw the police, he jumped into the river out of fear and went missing.
“My son jumped into the river in fear during the police raid. He has been missing since around 12 am last night. We are looking for him and I have filed a complaint at the police station. The police are sending the fire brigade to help with the search. I told him not to go, but he did not listen and went for sand mining,” said Talim’s father, Anil Jena.
Police officials, along with the ODRF team and fire brigade personnel, are searching the river for the youth, according to the police.
As of now, the youth is still missing and the search operation is ongoing.
