Subarnapur: In a shocking incident, a farmer was brutally murdered by fellow farmers for dispute over irrigation water for farmland from a nearby nullaha at Lupursingha village under Lachipur police station in Subarnapur district.
Late on Monday night, a dispute erupted between Kartik Bariha of the village and neighboring landowners over irrigating water from the nullha. The argument turned violent, and Kartik was brutally killed. The accused fled the scene, leaving behind the body, which was later recovered from the nullaha.
The incident has sent shockwaves among farmers in the area, who are already struggling with water scarcity. With the nullaha drying up, farmers have been relying on lift irrigation to cultivate their rabi crops. However, Kartik’s attempt to dig a drain to draw water from the nullaha was opposed by neighboring farmers which led to the fatal dispute.
The Lachipur police have registered a case and seized the body for further investigation. Three accused have been detained in connection with the murder.
