Bhubaneswar: Congress legislators in Odisha, who began a protest near Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly campus, ended their dharna after OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das intervened and requested them to call off the stir.
The protest was held against the suspension of senior MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati from the Assembly session.
Das criticized the suspension, dubbing it as unfortunate. An all-party meeting would have been more constructive, he said. Das also slammed the state government over rising crimes against women, including missing persons and minor rapes.
The OPCC president announced an emergency meeting with senior leaders and MLAs to decide the party’s next course of action. Congress MLAs will boycott the State Assembly tomorrow.
