Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, a poacher reportedly was fatally shot with his own country-made gun while hunting wild animals in a forest near Kunkuni Padasahi village under Mohana Police station in Gajapati district.
The poacher, Harishchandra Bhuyan, is resident of Sindhiba village in Rayagada police station, had been living in Kunkuni Padasahi village for two months and worked as a toddy tapper.
On the evening of the incident, Harishchandra and several villagers, including two who are being interrogated by police, ventured into the forest with a country-made gun for poaching.
The circumstances surrounding Harishchandra’s death are unclear, with some reports suggesting he was accidentally shot with his own gun. His body was discovered near a hill, along with the country-made gun and ammunition.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are questioning the two villagers who accompanied Harishchandra on the poaching trip.
Police are investigating to determine whether Harishchandra’s death was an accident or if there were other factors involved.
