Sambalpur: Sambalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo on Tuesday appointed a DSP rank officer to investigate the death of an accused. The accused reportedly died while being produced in Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court.
As per police clarification, Kadir Mohammad Sheikh, a 27-year-old resident of Christianpada was arrested on March 16, 2025, in connection with a case filed at Hirakud Police Station under Sections 331(4)/305 of BNS. Before being produced in court, Sheikh underwent a medical examination at Hirakud Community Health Centre, where he was declared fit.
However, while being produced before the SDJM Court, Sheikh suddenly felt uneasy and became unconscious. He was rushed to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital. He was later referred to VIMSAR in Burla where he was declared dead.
Following the Sambalpur SP’s instruction, Burla police have registered a case in this connection.
That apart, a DSP-rank officer has been roped in to investigate the cause of Sheikh’s death.
