Rayagada: In a remarkable act of selflessness, the family of a 22-year-old youth Chandrasekhar Nayak from Dukum village in the Bissam Cuttack block of Rayagada district, has donated his organs to save the lives of five critically ill patients.

The decision to donate came after Chandrasekhar’s father Krushna Chandra Nayak, and his two sons made a heartfelt request to doctors to donate various organs from their younger son’s body.

As per reports, Chandrasekhar was employed as an outsourcing staff member at the Muniguda Community Health Center (CHC). On March 15, after finishing work at the CHC, he was returning home on his bike. However, he met with a fatal accident after crashing into a tree.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and as his condition became critical, he was transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. There, the doctors declared that Chandrasekhar had suffered severe head injuries in the accident and was brain dead while being treated on a ventilator.

Upon hearing from the doctors about his son’s critical condition, Krushna Chandra Nayak and his two sons decided to donate the organs of their younger son. They requested the doctors to let their son’s life continue through others.

On their request, the medical authorities agreed to the transplant. A team of senior doctors from Chennai and Hyderabad carefully removed Chandrasekhar’s kidneys, lungs, and liver in the operating theater. The organs were then airlifted via a green corridor to hospitals in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, where five critically ill patients received life-saving transplants.

Following the donation, the medical department returned Chandrasekhar’s mortal remains to his family, allowing them to pay their last respects at the medical center. His body was subsequently transported back to Bissam Cuttack, where an outpouring of grief and respect from the community marked his passing.

Upon his arrival in Bissam Cuttack, dignitaries, including former Law Minister Jagannath Saraka, alongside hundreds of villagers, gathered to bid a final farewell to the young man whose sacrifice will be remembered for years to come.
