Bhubaneswar: A total of Rs 82,007,267 in revenue was collected from road tax in Odisha over the last five years, as informed by the Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena in the state assembly on Thursday.
In a written reply to a question from Lakshmipur (ST) MLA Pabitra Saunta, Minister Jena stated that there are 35 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and 3 Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) functioning in the state.
The revenue collected from road tax from the 2020-21 financial year to the 2024-25 financial year (up to February 28) totals Rs 82,007,267.
The Minister also disclosed that Rs 605.37 crore in road tax remains unpaid since the start of the current financial year (2024-25). Of this, Rs 191.18 crore has been collected by the end of February, leaving Rs 414.19 crore yet to be collected.
Regarding recovery efforts, Minister Jena confirmed that tax recovery cases are being registered against vehicle owners and the outstanding tax is being collected.
In addition, the state government is offering concessions to vehicle owners under the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme, which remains valid until March 31.
