Ex-District Panchayat Officer Gets 2 Years In Jail For Corruption

Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Baripada on Thursday sentenced former District Panchayat Officer (Retired) of Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, Banshidhar Singh, to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 after convicting him for possessing disproportionate assets (DA).

According to an official press release, Singh was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now approach the competent authority to seek the stoppage of Singh’s pension.
