Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning predicting thunderstorm activity in 19 districts of Odisha within the next three hours. The alert was issued at 9:05 PM on Friday, highlighting the likelihood of moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several regions.

According to the IMD, moderate thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain and hail, are expected to affect parts of Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, and Mayurbhanj districts. An ‘Orange’ warning has been issued for these areas, indicating the potential for minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops. Residents are advised to monitor weather conditions closely and be prepared to move to safer locations if necessary.

In addition, light to moderate thunderstorms or rain with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to impact parts of Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, and Sambalpur districts. A ‘Yellow’ warning has been issued for these regions, urging people to stay vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks during adverse weather conditions.
