Bhubaneswar: The state government is set to introduce a new syllabus for students in classes I to VIII, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The announcement was made by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Saturday.

Minister Gond revealed that the department has formed a special committee to revise the curriculum, which will be rolled out between March 26-27.

“After the implementation of NEP-2020, our department has taken the initiative to overhaul the syllabus. The new curriculum for classes I to VIII will be introduced soon and the committee is already working on it,” he said while speaking to the media.

The minister also addressed the issue of school admissions, highlighting a key difference from the central guidelines.

Unlike the national standard, which mandates that children must be six years old by March 31 to be eligible for admission, the Odisha government has extended this deadline to September 1.

Additionally, the School and Mass Education department tweeted that there is ‘no upper age limit’ for admission.

“Children who are six years of age or older can apply through the RTE-PARDARSHI portal,” the tweet read.

@IPR_Odisha

This move is part of Odisha’s ongoing efforts to align its education system with national standards, ensuring a more modern and inclusive approach for students across the state.
