Dhenkanal: Three labourers died and one sustained severe injuries when a dumper truck ran over labourers engaged in a road construction near Rekula Satsanga Kendra under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, a dumper truck ran over the labourers, who were then crushed by a road roller and an electric pole. Firefighters and residents rushed to the scene, cutting through the wreckage with gas cutters to rescue the trapped labourers.

The mishap took place when the road construction work was underway.

Only one of the deceased labourers has been identified as Khirod Sahu from Rekula village. The other two victims remain unidentified.

Blaming the road construction agency for the road mishap, local villagers blocked the Kamakhyanagar-Dhenkanal road and demanded compensation for the families of the deceased labourers and better working conditions. The road blockade has disrupted traffic flow in the area.
