Heat Wave Returns As Mercury Crosses 40°C Mark In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a scorching heat wave today, with mercury levels crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark in several parts of the state.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place, recording a sizzling temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius. Sambalpur and Hirakud followed closely, with temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and 40.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Other parts of the state also experienced extreme heat, with Rourkela recording 39.4 degrees Celsius, Chandbali 38.8 degrees Celsius, and Bhubaneswar 38.5 degrees Celsius. However, the state capital later recorded a higher temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius.

Keonjhar was relatively cooler, with a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in temperatures from March 29.

According to IMD’s prediction for March 29, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in one or two places over the Sambalpur and Boudh districts.

For March 30, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Kalahandi districts have been issued yellow warnings.
