Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania today said that the State has made significant progress in combating Maoist menace. He noted that the number of affected districts has decreased from 21 to seven.

However, Maoist movements along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border still remain a concern. The DGP assured that search operations are underway and have yielded significant success.

He urged the people involved in violence to reintegrate into mainstream society at a review meeting on Hanuman Jayanti celebrations and security arrangements in Sambalpur.

During his visit to Sambalpur, Khurania discussed with Superintendents of Police from five districts to discuss strategies for countering Maoist threats and enhancing public safety. He reiterated that Odisha Police is closely monitoring Maoist activities and taking proactive measures to prevent naxal violence.

“We have made significant progress in reducing the impact of Maoist activities in the state. Previously, 21 districts were affected, but this number has decreased to 10 and now stands at seven. The state’s efforts to combat Maoism have been successful, with initiatives like strategic deployment of security forces and anti-Maoist operations,” he said.

We are maintaining a strong vigil along our borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Based on intelligence inputs, we are conducting operations, which yielded fruits”, he added.

The DGP also honoured police officials at Odisha Police Medal Award Ceremony. He also visited the Samaleswari Temple, seeking the deity’s blessings.
