Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly killed his father and critically injured his mother following a family dispute at Turipada village under Jujumura police station in Sambalpur district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Gaya Mallick (80), while his wife, Ukiya Mallick (72), has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.
According to sources, Gaya had four daughters and two sons. All are married. On Sunday, a heated argument broke out between Gaya and his younger son, Balakrishna Mallick (40), over a domestic issue.
The dispute took a violent turn when Balakrishna allegedly attacked his father with an iron rod, leading to his death on the spot. Ukiya, who tried to intervene, was also assaulted and sustained grievous injuries.
Alerted by locals, police reached the spot, recovered Gaya’s body, and sent it for post-mortem.
Ukiya was initially rushed to the Jujumura Community Health Centre (CHC) but was later shifted to Sambalpur DHH due to her critical condition.
Police have detained the accused and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
