Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur district sub-registrar Surya Narayan Samal who was arrested for land fraud, has been placed under suspension.
As per an order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Samal will be posted in the office of the Sambalpur District Collector until the suspension is lifted. In addition, he will not be able to take any leave without prior permission.
Last month, Samal along with four other land brokers were arrested for their involvement in a fraud using forgery and impersonation to illegally acquire a dead person’s land.
Police also seized a forged sale deed issued in September 2022 and a reissued sale deed dated January 2025.
Police said that they conspired to sell a 0.210-acre plot in Unit 14 in Sambalpur’s Danipali. The “gharabari” kissam plot was originally registered under the name of Binod Kumar Gupta, a government liquor shop employee from Bihar, who passed away in February 2001.
