Bhubaneswar: A 44-year-old software engineer attempted to take his own life after losing a substantial amount of money in online gaming.
As per reports, Sarbajit Ray, a software engineer, had previously worked in Chennai but had quit his job a few days ago and was running a tuition center in his village.
Sarbajit, a resident of Teghari village under Raibania police station in Balasore district, had been playing an online game and lost around Rs 6 lakh.
He had initially lost Rs 20,000 in the game, but in an attempt to recover his losses, he continued to play and lost a significant amount more. The financial strain took a toll on his mental health, leading him to attempt suicide by slashing his throat and wrist with a blade.
Ray’s family members found him in a critical condition and rushed him to Jaleswar’s JK Bhavatar Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Fakir Mohan Medical College in Balasore for further treatment.
