Puri: Two teenage boys were allegedly brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants during a local fair at Kotakosanga village under Balanga police station in Puri district on Saturday night.

The victims have been identified as Shubhankar Sethi (18) and Omm Prakash Jena (17), both residents of Birat Sahi in the same village.

According to reports, the incident took place during the annual village fair when a clash erupted between youths of Kotakosanga and Pradhan Sahi. While police detained a few persons from Pradhan Sahi for questioning, a group of miscreants from Kotakosanga allegedly mistook the two teenagers as rivals.

In a shocking act of brutality, the duo, was reportedly tied to an electric pole and subjected to inhuman torture. The attackers allegedly thrashed them with iron rods, stubbed lit cigarettes on their bodies, cracked open one of the boys’ heads, and even forced one of them to consume urine.

Omm Prakash is said to have managed to call his brother during the attack but was unable to speak. Alarmed by the background noise, the brother rushed to the fairground and found the boys being tortured. Upon confrontation, the miscreants fled the spot.

Family members rescued the victims and admitted them to a nearby hospital for treatment. A written complaint was later lodged at Balanga police station. Based on the complaint, police have initiated a probe into the incident.
