Heatwave Grips Odisha: Jharsuguda Hits 45.4°C, 13 Towns Exceed 40°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is enduring extreme heatwave conditions, with 13 towns across the state registering temperatures of 40°C or more on Monday. Jharsuguda was the hottest, with the mercury soaring to a blistering 45.4°C.

According to weather scientist Uma Shankar Das, the highest temperature was recorded in Jharsuguda at 45.4°C, followed closely by Boudh at 43.2°C. Other towns experiencing the heatwave include Sambalpur (43°C), Sundergarh (43°C), Titilagarh (43°C), and Bhawanipatna (42.5°C).

Additional towns affected by the sweltering heat are:

  • Hirakud: 42.4°C
  • Balangir: 42.3°C
  • Sonepur: 42.1°C
  • Rourkela: 42°C
  • Bargarh: 42°C
  • Angul: 41.7°C
  • Nuapada: 41.5°C
  • Parlakhemundi: 40°C

With the rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) advises staying indoors during the hottest part of the day unless necessary. If you need to go outside, stay hydrated and wears protective clothing.
