Cuttack: Two police personnel lost their lives and another sustained critical injuries when a speeding sand-laden Hyva truck rammed into a Police Control Room (PCR) van on patrol duty along the Cuttack-Paradip road in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Jagannath Mahali, the driver of the PCR van, and Lokanath Shabar, a member of the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF). The injured officer, Pabitra Mohan Sethi, was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred near Gati Routpatna when a sand-laden truck rammed into a PCR van from the C.R.R.I. police station. As a result, two police personnel died on the spot and one sustained critical injuries.
On being informed, the police arrived at the scene, detained the truck driver, and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
“At approximately 4 am today, an incident occurred during the patrolling of PCR 15 of the C.R.R.I. police station. In this incident, one OAPF staff member and one home guard died on the spot, while another sustained injuries and is currently being treated at SCB, Cuttack. The Hyva driver has been detained, and an investigation is underway,” said Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo to reporters.
