Bhubaneswar: In response to the severe heatwave gripping Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the closure of all educational institutions, from Anganwadi centers to Class 12, starting April 23. The decision, aimed at protecting students’ health, applies to both government and private schools and colleges across the state.
Following a high-level review meeting today, the Chief Minister directed the closure of Anganwadi centers, pre-schools, and schools up to Class 12 due to soaring daytime temperatures that have disrupted daily life. To ensure the well-being of young children, dry food will be supplied to Anganwadi beneficiaries at their homes during this period.
Additionally, the state government has declared a five-day holiday for government and private colleges starting April 23. However, pre-scheduled examinations will proceed as planned, with officials instructed to make necessary arrangements to ensure smooth conduct.
The review meeting, held in Bhubaneswar, was attended by key officials, including Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Works, Law, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, and Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department Deoranjan Kumar Singh, among others.
