Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted extensive searches at 12 locations across five districts in Odisha on Wednesday, as part of its ongoing probe into the 2023 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment fraud.
The operation targeted premises in Bhubaneswar, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Keonjhar, focusing on individuals linked to the scam, including middlemen and those involved in forging matriculation certificates.
The case, registered by the CBI on May 9, 2023, following a complaint from the Chief Postmaster General, Odisha Circle, Bhubaneswar, alleges that certain candidates submitted forged matriculation certificates from the Uttar Pradesh Board and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to secure GDS positions.
The CBI has already made significant progress in the investigation. On December 30, 2024, it filed a chargesheet against 58 accused individuals, including 55 candidates and three middlemen, before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Bhubaneswar.
The agency continues to investigate to identify remaining culprits and uncover the masterminds behind the forgery network, aiming to fully expose the extent of the scam.
