Bhubaneswar: With the aim of making the state police force more active and effective, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday approved an increase in allowances and incentives for police personnel.

According to an official press release, as per this decision, the uniform allowance for police personnel from constables to inspectors has been doubled.

The annual uniform allowance for inspectors has increased from ₹4,300 to ₹8,600. For sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), it has been raised from ₹4,200 to ₹8,400. For havildars, constables, and sepoys, the allowance has gone up from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000. Similarly, ex-army personnel serving in the Special Striking Force will now receive an increased annual uniform allowance of ₹11,800, up from ₹5,900.

Personnel and officers holding equivalent ranks will also receive allowances at the revised rates.

Additionally, the annual Extra Duty Incentive for constables, sepoys, and personnel of equivalent ranks has been increased to a maximum of ₹25,000.

For havildars and personnel of similar rank, the annual Extra Duty Incentive has been raised to a maximum of ₹30,000.

In appreciation of this hike in allowances and incentives, officers from the Constable, Havildar, and Sepoy associations met with Chief Minister Mohan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhavan to express their gratitude.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister instructed association leaders to work diligently in the coming days and contribute to improving law and order in the state.

In a meeting, the Chief Minister advised all police personnel present to live up to the expectations and trust of the people of Odisha and to contribute towards establishing Odisha as a model state in terms of peace and law and order.

He especially emphasized the need to ensure timely assistance to the helpless, quick protection for vulnerable individuals, immediate registration of FIRs at all police stations, and timely investigations of such cases.

The Chief Minister affirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening and streamlining Odisha’s police force. He announced the creation of 16,059 new posts in the police department, in addition to filling around 16,000 existing vacancies.

Once these positions are filled, the deployment of police personnel in the state will significantly increase in proportion to the population. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of training officers in other states to learn from their operational practices and adopt best practices in Odisha.

At the start of the meeting, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania delivered the welcome address and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the various measures taken to empower different divisions of the police force.

The event was also attended by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, and several senior police officials.

Anil Kumar Sandha, President of the Constable, Havildar, and Sepoy Association, extended his thanks to the Chief Minister. The association’s secretary Kishore Kumar Mohanty and other members were also present.
