Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning across 25 districts of Odisha on April 27. Gusty surface winds are also expected in several regions.

In its special bulletin, the IMD stated that a cyclonic circulation over east Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, continues to persist, influencing weather patterns over Odisha.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are very likely to occur during the afternoon and evening at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, and Nayagarh.

Similarly, gusty winds at 30–40 kmph with thunder and lightning are likely at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts. Thunderstorms with lightning are also predicted in Boudh, Sonepur, and Bolangir.

In addition, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heat wave conditions, likely to prevail at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid weather is expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

No major change in maximum day temperatures is expected over the next two days.

However, a drop of 3–5°C is likely during the subsequent three days. Day temperatures may soar above 42°C in parts of Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Angul, Sonepur, and Kalahandi.
