Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday congratulated Odisha sprinter Animesh Kujur for his record-breaking performance at the 28th National Federation Senior Athletics Championships in Kochi, where the 21-year-old clinched gold in the men’s 200m event with a stunning time of 20.40 seconds.
Kujur’s performance not only earned him the top podium spot but also shattered the previous national record of 20.52 seconds set by Amlan Borgohain in 2022. His timing places him as the current Asian season leader and joint 35th in the world this year, marking a major milestone in his athletic career.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Majhi said, “Congratulations to Animesh Kujur for bringing glory to the state by winning the gold medal in the men’s 200m race at the 28th National Federation Senior Athletics Championships, setting a new national record of 20.40 seconds. Also, congratulations for qualifying for the Asian Athletics Championships 2025. I wish him continued success and a bright future.”

Kujur, who had earlier secured a silver medal in the men’s 100m event, demonstrated remarkable consistency and speed throughout the competition. His impressive 200m victory also saw Amlan Borgohain, representing Reliance, finish second with a time of 20.80 seconds.
The achievement is being celebrated across Odisha, as Kujur’s rise marks a significant moment for athletics in the state.
