Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather warnings for Odisha, forecasting severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds across various districts from April 29 to May 3. The impending weather conditions are expected to be intense, with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph and potential hailstorms in some areas.
According to the IMD, an orange warning has been issued for April 29, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in the afternoon and evening hours in districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda. Wind speeds are predicted to reach 50-60 kmph in these areas.
Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for other districts, including Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada, with wind speeds expected to reach 40-50 kmph.
The IMD has forecast similar weather conditions for the subsequent days, with the orange warning upgraded to May 1 for some districts.
On April 30, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. These districts have been issued an orange warning.
The yellow warning will continue for various districts until May 3, with the IMD predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several areas.
On May 1, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall, are expected in the afternoon or evening hours in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Khurda.
Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to occur in the afternoon or evening hours in districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On May 2, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall, are expected in the afternoon or evening hours in districts such as Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak. Other districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur, may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
On May 3, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall, are expected in the afternoon or evening hours in districts such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nabarangapur.
Furthermore, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to occur in several other districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
