Jharsuguda: A deer that strayed into Durlaga village from the Kurla forest, located between Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts, died after being attacked by stray dogs. The deer was rescued by forest officials and brought to the Badheimunda range office, where it succumbed to its injuries while undergoing treatment.

According to Jharsuguda Range officer Bijay Kumar Pradhan, the deer, a 4-5-year-old male, was found injured in the village and was immediately rescued and shifted to a veterinary hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save it, the deer died an hour after consuming food.

“I received information in the morning that a male deer, aged about 4-5 years old, was lying injured in Durlaga village. I immediately sent our staff, who rescued the animal with the help of villagers and shifted it to Jharsuguda veterinary hospital. The veterinary officials treated the deer. We brought it to a safe house and fed it with grass and water. But the animal died one hour after consuming grass,” said Jharsuguda Range officer Bijay Kumar Pradhan.

Pradhan stated that the deer likely entered Jharsuguda from Sundargarh and was attacked by stray dogs, leading to its severe injuries and eventual death. The deer’s body was later dissected and given a proper burial at the Kumudapali nursery.
