Keonjhar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated a state-of-the-art police station and a Reserve Police office in Keonjhar town today, marking a significant step toward enhancing law enforcement infrastructure in the district.
The police station, built at a cost of ₹3.34 crore, and the reserve police office, constructed for ₹2.76 crore, are equipped with modern facilities to improve public service delivery.
During the event, the Chief Minister flagged off 17 SUVs and 80 motorcycles to bolster police mobility. The new police station features ramps for the differently-abled, a conference room, a suspect and evidence examination room, a women and children’s help desk, and 24/7 CCTV surveillance, among other amenities, ensuring a citizen-friendly environment.
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi emphasized the critical role of police stations in maintaining law and order. He urged officers to treat the public with empathy, warning that failure to register FIRs promptly would invite strict action. He also directed police to remain vigilant to prevent crimes like those recently reported in Bhubaneswar.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to modernize police stations and curb crime. He announced that 32,000 new police posts have been created, with recruitment for 16,000 vacant and 16,000 new posts underway. This expansion will significantly strengthen the state’s police force in the coming years.
Majhi criticized the previous government for restricting police autonomy, which allowed criminals to operate with political backing. He declared that since June 12, 2024, such protections have ceased, ensuring equal accountability under the law.
DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania reaffirmed the police’s commitment to public safety and efficient service delivery through the new facilities.
The event saw the presence of Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, several MLAs, and senior officials, including Keonjhar District Collector Vishal Singh and SP Nitin Kushalkar.
