Bhubaneswar: The State Capital Bhubaneswar recorded its highest temperature of the season, reaching 40.2°C, marking the first time the mercury crossed the 40-degree mark in the city this year.

Last year, Bhubaneswar’s temperature surpassed 40°C on April 5, with over 10 instances in April alone, weather scientist Umashankar Das stated.

Other Odisha cities are also experiencing scorching temperatures, with Sambalpur recording 42.7°C, Hirakud 41.7°C, and Jharsuguda 41.6°C. Baleswar recorded 39.7°C, Rourkela 39.6°C, and Chandbali 39.4°C.

The temperature dip earlier this year was attributed to Kalabaisakhi, a pre-monsoon thunderstorm phenomenon. However, the current heatwave has taken temperatures soaring, with several places in Odisha recording high temperatures.
