Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cabinet has approved the construction of the Khairibandhan Barrage Project, including an afflux bund at Anlabeni in Jashipur Block of Mayurbhanj district. The project aims to provide assured kharif irrigation to chronically drought-prone areas, primarily inhabited by backward, weaker, and tribal populations.
The tender for the project has been approved with an execution cost of Rs 97.67 crore, and the work is expected to be completed within 30 months. Once completed, the project will irrigate 6,950 hectares of land in 47 villages across Jashipur, Raruan, and Sukruli blocks through an underground pipeline system.
Additionally, the project will provide drinking water to over 35,000 people, support livestock and aquaculture, replenish groundwater levels, and ensure sustainable food production. This will ultimately improve the socio-economic conditions of the local population.
