Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Saturday apprehended Ashok Kumar Das, Junior Engineer (JE), Basudevpur Block in Bhadrak while he was allegedly demanding and taking bribe Rs.10,000 from a contractor to facilitate release of bills for works executed by him. According to an official press statement accused Das refused to release the bill amount unless he was paid the demanded bribe. The entire bribe money of Rs. 10,000 has been recovered from the possession of accused Das and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches by Vigilance officials are underway at four locations of Das over alleged disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
Vigilance has registered a case against Das under section 7 of the PC (Amendment)Act , 2018. Further investigation is in progress against accused Das.
