Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Tigiria Police Station in Cuttack district while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
The arrested officer has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Behera, ASI of Tigiria Police Station in Cuttack district.
According to an official press release, ASI Pradeep was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a complainant in connection with a village dispute. Both parties involved in the dispute had submitted counter reports, which were later settled through mutual compromise.
Despite the settlement, the ASI allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant to avoid taking action based on the counter report. Acting on a complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and apprehended Behera while he was receiving the bribe amount.
The entire sum of Rs 5,000 was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being carried out at three locations linked to Behera to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 12/21.5.2025).
Further investigation is underway.
