Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Yatri app, launched by the State Transport department in January this year, has been a huge success, providing a good income to over 10,000 drivers who have registered themselves on the platform.
In just five months, these drivers have earned more than Rs 2 crore, with the average driver earning a decent income without having to pay any commission to the government.
The app has crossed the 2 lakh trip mark, which is a testament to the faith that the people of Odisha have placed in this mobility solution. According to Usha Padhi, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport, Housing and Urban Development Department, “Odisha Yatri is aimed at neutrality, cleanliness, and safety. We are just getting started.”
The app has been particularly popular in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with over 1.61 lakh people completing their fares in these cities. The highest number of trips has been recorded in the capital city, where drivers have earned Rs 2.5 crore. In Cuttack, drivers have earned ₹5.90 lakh.
One of the key reasons for the app’s success is its safety feature, which allows the police to keep an eye on the cabs. This has made the app very popular among passengers, who can now travel safely without worrying about being exploited.
The transport department plans to expand the Odisha Yatri system to other districts of Odisha and establish a foothold at the national level. The department is also working on connecting domestic ambulances with Odisha Yatri, which will increase the number of users and provide a safe and reliable transportation option for patients and their relatives.
Overall, the Odisha Yatri app has been a game-changer for drivers in Odisha, providing them with a good income and a reliable source of livelihood. With its safety features and lack of commission, the app is set to continue its success story in the coming months.
