Baripada: A sudden fire broke out in the computer department of the Mayurbhanj Zilla Parishad office on Thursday afternoon, causing panic among employees and visitors. Fortunately, the fire department responded quickly and brought the fire under control within a short time, preventing a major accident.
According to eyewitnesses, employees first noticed thick smoke billowing out of the building and immediately informed the fire services department. The fire personnel quickly responded and extinguished the fire by opening the doors and windows and spraying water.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit from an old Xerox machine in the computer department. The blaze had not engulfed the entire building, but a lot of valuable furniture, equipment, and documents were burnt to ashes in the fire.
“It is completely under control. We first opened the doors and windows and extinguished the inferno by spraying water,” said fire services personnel.
An employee of the office said, “My colleagues first noticed the smoke billowing out of the building. Then we ran away and informed the fire service department. An unused old Xerox machine might catch fire from short circuit.”
The incident has highlighted the need for regular maintenance and inspection of electrical equipment in government offices. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the extent of the damage is being assessed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
