Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a change in the government holiday for Savitri Amavasya, shifting it from May 27 to May 26, 2025.
The decision, officially approved by the Chief Minister, aligns the holiday with the correct date for the religious observance as confirmed by key religious institutions, including Mukti Mandap.
Initially, the state government had designated May 27 as the holiday for Savitri Amavasya, a significant day for married women in Odisha who observe rituals for the long life of their husbands. However, following consultations with the Puri Mukti Mandap, a revered religious body, and other almanac authorities, it was clarified that the festival will be observed on May 26.
To ensure public convenience and adherence to religious traditions, the government promptly revised the holiday schedule.
