Jajpur: A Special Fast Track POCSO Court in Jajpur on Saturday sentenced Naba Kishore Majhi to life imprisonment for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Raneshwar Puri village under Korei police station limits in 2016.
Presiding Judge Bijay Kumar Jena delivered the verdict, convicting Majhi based on the testimony of 40 witnesses. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused, with an additional six-month imprisonment term if the fine remains unpaid.
Public Prosecutor Rajendra Prasad Nayak stated that the crime occurred on January 1, 2016. Majhi abducted the minor, raped her at Labaneswar Primary School, and subsequently killed her to conceal evidence. He dumped the victim’s body in the school’s septic tank. The crime came to light the next day when students noticed bloodstains and alerted teachers, who informed the police.
The police recovered the body, which was identified by the victim’s uncle. Following a complaint by the victim’s family, Majhi was arrested on January 7, 2016. The court’s decision marks a significant step in delivering justice for the heinous crime.
