Bhubaneswar: A traffic police officer was allegedly assaulted by two transgender persons at the busy Bargarh Gandhi Chhak intersection in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, prompting swift police action and the detention of the accused.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the two persons were reportedly soliciting money from motorists stopped at a red signal. When some commuters refused to offer money, the duo allegedly began harassing them.
The situation escalated when a traffic police officer intervened and asked them to leave the area. In retaliation, the transgender persons reportedly dragged the officer out of his vehicle and physically attacked him in full public view.
The dramatic confrontation was captured by nearby CCTV cameras and the footage is currently being reviewed by investigating officers.
Following the altercation, female police personnel arrived at the scene and managed to detain the two persons involved in the incident.
The officer sustained minor injuries and is reportedly in stable condition.
